PLANNING COMMISSION
June 3, 2009

The June 3rd meeting of the Upsala Planning Commission was called to order at 6:00pm by Mayor Cheney. Also in attendance were commission members Joan Olsen and Lynda Tarbuck. Steve Woller was absent. Visitors included Joe Trettel.

The commission reviewed Joe Trettel’s application for a land use permit. He wishes to build a new house on the footprint of his former home. With setbacks and other requirements being met, Dan Cheney made a motion to recommend approval of the permit. Lynda Tarbuck second. Motion carried.

William Scholz submitted a request to landscape the area around his future shed to help aid with water runoff. Since the request seemed to affect only his land, the commission saw no problems with Mr Scholz performing this work.

The city attorney recommended that a public hearing be held regarding the passing of the new boiler ordinance. Following that recommendation Lynda Tarbuck made a motion that a hearing be held at the next Planning Commission meeting (July 1 at 6:00pm). Second by Dan Cheney. Motion carried. The clerk will be asked to provide sufficient notice.

Discussion was held regarding road improvements. Tower Road was mentioned as needing repair, and the commission recommends that the council solicit bid to reclaim the southern part of Tower Road between 4th Ave W and 1st Ave W.

Discussion was also held on Oak Avenue, especially the difficulty of vehicles meeting at the entrance and the potential safety hazard. The commission recommends the council explore possible solutions. These may include widening Oak Avenue (either partially or completely) or creating a right turn lane at the entrance.

Meeting adjourned at 6:55pm.

Submitted by Dan Cheney.

Next meeting is scheduled for July 1, 2009 at 6:00pm at City Hall.
