Planning Commission

The July 1st meeting of the Upsala Planning Commission was called to order at 6:00pm by Mayor Cheney. Also in attendance were commission members Joan Olsen and Lynda Tarbuck. Steve Woller was absent. Visitors included Jason and Bethany Malisheski.

The public hearing for the proposed new outdoor boiler ordinance was held. Valuable input was heard concerning items such as what types of materials may be burned and chimney height. That input will be taken into consideration when drafting an updated ordinance for council consideration. The public hearing was then closed and the visitors were thanked for their input.

The Commission was notified of permit applications approved by the clerk. They included shingles for Karen Liebsch, shingles for Gary Eggerth, shingles for Tschida, and roof repair for the school.

A note was read from Rawland Hagstrom asking that the council consider Hickory Avenue when work is done on the adjacent Tower Road.

An opportunity is available to purchase updated wall-size zoning and aerial maps from the county at a cost of $250. Considering the outdated nature of the current maps, the Commission unanimously recommended that new maps be purchased.

The availability of DEED grants for redeveloping blighted areas was presented, and discussion followed on various properties in town which could be considered blight.

Meeting adjourned at 7:05pm.
