Planning Commission

The September 2 meeting of the Upsala Planning Commission was called to order at 6:05pm by Mayor Cheney. Also in attendance were commission members Joan Olson and Lynda Tarbuck. Steve Woller was absent.

An application for a building permit for Don Marty was reviewed. He wishes to replace an existing entryway with a slightly larger one at 3012 50th Ave. MCU to recommend approval.

The updated zoning map inaccurately labels a couple parcels in the city limits. The new map shows the lots occupied by Lange Oil as commercial when in fact they are still agricultural. The new map also shows a parcel owned by Soltis as agricultural while it is actually industrial. The commission wishes to officially re-zone those parcels so they match the new zoning map. MCU to recommend re-zoning and to hold the required public hearing at the October 12 council meeting.

Further zoning discussion was held regarding zoning as it relates to the city’s comprehensive plan. Commission members were encouraged to review the comprehensive plan, and the commission will determine if further zoning changes are needed to facilitate the goals outlined in the comprehensive plan.

The boring samples from the Tower Road reconstruction project apparently showed a less than ideal base for the road which would probably lead to higher project costs.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:40pm.
