Planning Commission

Aug 5, 2009

The August 5 meeting of the Upsala Planning Commission was called to order at 5:30pm by Mayor Cheney. Also in attendance were commission members Steve Woller and Lynda Tarbuck. Joan Olsen was absent. Visitors included council members Rollie Johnson and Robert Maciej as well as Stephen Roerick.

An application for a building permit for Stephen Roerick was reviewed. He wishes to build a new house by Tower Road. MCU to recommend approval. Steven Woller presented an application to build a new shed. MCU to recommend approval.

The Commission was notified of permit applications approved by the clerk. They included a roof for Mark and Gretchen Schleper, and a roof as well for Robert Hommes.

Discussion was held about setbacks as they pertain to the new Bill Scholz shed. It was clarified that the planning commission considers the setback as measured from the center of the road.

The regular meeting was closed and a public hearing was opened at 6:00pm.

Mayor Cheney explained that the purpose for the public hearing was to gather public input about a proposed change to Upsala’s zoning ordinance. The change would make the operation of a restaurant conditionally permitted in R1 and Agricultural zones. If this change were passed, any potential restaurant would still need to go through the conditional use permit procedure.

Opinions were heard both for and against the proposed change and the public was thanked for their input. The council will need to vote on the proposed change and it needs a simple majority to pass.

The public hearing was adjourned at 6:35pm.

Submitted by Dan Cheney.

Next meeting is scheduled for September 2, 2009 at 6:00pm at City Hall.
