Planning Commission
Jan 6, 2010
The January 6 meeting of the Upsala Planning Commission was called to order at 6:05 by Dan Cheney. Also present were commission members Joan Olson and Lynda Tarbuck. Steve Woller was absent. Visitors included council member Robert Maciej, representatives from St Mary’s Church and community members.
The primary item on the agenda was the public hearing for the conditional use permit for the new St Mary’s Church. The discussion was dominated by the handling of water runoff. St Mary’s presented new plans which included a system that directed water behind the new building to the west and south and eventually into a holding pond. Concerns were raised that St Mary’s may be dealing with more water than they expect, because of additional runoff from higher ground to the west. Additional water could ultimately overflow across Oak Avenue to the south.
Additional items were clarified such as the height of the structure and the need for a landscaping plan.
Attendees were thanked for their input and the public hearing was closed at 7:05pm.
Additional discussion by commission members indicated a desire to revisit improvements to Oak Avenue with possible widening and storm sewer.
The group also discussed advertising in the Hometown News to fill the final vacant spot on the planning commission.
The meeting adjourned at 7:15pm.
Submitted by Dan Cheney.
Next meeting is scheduled for February 10, 2010 (the Wednesday before City Council) at 6:00pm at City Hall.
