Planning Commission

Mar 3, 2010

The March 3 meeting of the Upsala Planning Commission was called to order at 5:30 by Dan Cheney. Also present were commission members Joan Olson, Lynda Tarbuck and Steve Woller. Visitors included council members Robert Maciej and Rollie Johnson, city engineer Don Anderson and various community members.

The primary item on the agenda was a public hearing to receive input for a proposed new road improvement project.

The city council is considering widening Oak Avenue and adding storm sewer.

After mayor Cheney gave a brief overview of the project including the city’s intention to not use individual property assessments to help fund the project, city engineer Don Anderson went through the feasibility study in more detail. The proposal widens Oak Avenue to a width of 36 feet with curb and gutter, and a storm sewer draining to the west.

Discussion was held regarding the reasons for considering the project in the first place, the possibility of a street width narrower than 36 feet, concerns about losing front yard for residents on the south side of the street, and inclusion of a possible sidewalk.

The next step would be to determine exactly who owns the property involved, and a survey is currently being performed to help gather some of that information.

The meeting adjourned at 6:30pm.

Submitted by Dan Cheney.

Next meeting is scheduled for April 7, 2010 (the Wednesday before City Council) at 6:00pm at City Hall.
